Bartlow: former railway station
Bartlow: former railway station
Bartlow, on the Cambridge to Colchester route, was the junction for Saffron Walden and Audley End. The Colchester line crossed the Ashdon road, from which this picture was taken, just to the right; the bridge has gone but its overgrown brick abutments remain. The line closed in 1967 and the Audley End branch in 1964. The station building is now a rather grand house, Booking Hall - see James Yardley's TL5844 : Former station at Bartlow. Fifty years ago Ben Brooksbank stood in front of it (to the right of what can be seen here) to take TL5844 : Bartlow Station.
