Lloyd's of London, Leadenhall Street (1)
Lloyd's of London, Leadenhall Street (1)
By Richard Rogers Partnership in 1978-86 (with Ove Arup & Partners as engineers), and, as Pevsner wrote, "the most consistently innovative building the City has seen since Soane's Bank of England." The basic idea here is to make a virtue of what are normally necessities - lift shafts, air ducts, pipes etc are on the outside in all their glory - but everything has been designed and the overall effect is stunning. Grade I listed.
At bottom right can be seen the surviving frontispiece to a previous Lloyd's building: TQ3381 : Lloyd's of London, Leadenhall Street (2).
