The former South Tyne Coal Company's East End Pit
Coal was mined in the valley of Haltwhistle Burn from the mid-1600s. This pit dates from around 1840 - more info and a photo of the pit around 1900 can be found at LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . The low structure in the foreground was the engine house.
