Former tramway by Haltwhistle Burn
Former tramway by Haltwhistle Burn
The Newcastle Granite & Whinstone Company started to work NY7166 : Cawfields Quarry around 1902 and laid down a 1ft 11½ in gauge single track tramway to Haltwhistle at Town Foot. Further details of the tramway (provided by Mr L G Charlton) can be found at LinkExternal link . Much of the path alongside the burn that runs south from the Military Road towards Haltwhistle uses the trackbed of the old tramway.
