War memorials come in all shapes and sizes. Bromley War Memorial is one of the more memorable ones. It is situated at the top of the slope of Martin's Hill, on the other side of Church Road from the Church of St Peter and St Paul. As such there are fine views beyond the memorial to the west, and the setting is impressive, as can be seen here.
TQ3969 : Pump House Close, Shortlands This building housed a Bull type pumping engine. There was a beam projecting from the building on a wall not visible. The two large arched windows are in what would have been the boiler house. The late George Watkins photographed this site and there is a picture in the 1968 book - The Stationary Steam Engine.
