Slate at Rhosydd Quarry
Slate at Rhosydd Quarry
Discarded slate strewn around the site of Rhosydd Quarry. The ruins of some of the former accommodation can be seen in the background. The quarry began operations back in the 1840s, reaching its peak in the 1880s when 200 men were employed here. In 1900, a fall resulted in the loss of access to some of the prime slate. The quarry closed in 1930.
