Redolent of its day, 1795 (think William Pitt the Younger as PM, George III on the throne, Bread Riots across England, British forces kick the Dutch out of Cape Town, Napoleon on the rise, hair powder tax brings the demise of powdering hair) and a portico of Bath stone doric columns welcomed visitors to this quarter of Cardiganshire and the walls are lime washed in the fashionable colour of the day, the plaster being harling - a mix of lime plaster, animal hair and gravel.
