Shildon Engine House
The Keys to the Past website LinkExternal link says "This is an early 19th century engine house. A tall chimney stands to the west side of the building. It was built in 1806, to house a steam-powered pump, which was used to keep water out of the nearby [lead] mine. It was disused by the late 19th century and was turned into a house for several families. It was then in ruins for much of the 20th century, though it has been repaired recently. This is a Grade II listed building and a Scheduled Monument protected by law."
