Heckington Station
Heckington Station
A Nottingham bound train stands in the station. The level crossing gates at Heckington are manually operated so the signalman has to descend from his 'box to close the gates to traffic and then return to the 'box to pull off the signals to allow the trains to proceed. He then must repeat the process once the trains are cleared. The hourly services from Nottingham to Skegness and that from Skegness to Nottingham are scheduled to pass at Heckington. If the signalman is lucky, the trains will be on time and so he only need carry out the above procedure once an hour. If either train is late, he will need to carry out the procedure twice within the hour.
