Kay Park and Lake
Kay Park and Lake
The Kay Park was gifted to the people of Kilmarnock on its opening in 1879 and is currently undergoing regeneration after years of neglect.
Previous attempts have left their mark, notably the small dock visible on the far shore of the lake, where boats were hired out during summer.
The park also housed the Burns Monument Museum until 2004 when it was destroyed by fire. Its 80 foot tower would have been visible in the centre right of this image just above the tree line. On being rebuilt (minus tower) it is the new home to the Registration Services for East Ayrshire under the name of Burns Monument Centre.
