In due course (probably around 1753) he left the established church and began to ordain his own ministers, founding over 80 congregations mostly in the north of England. But by the 1960s there were only seven left (here at Wheatley and at Colne, Winewall and Cotton Tree in Lancashire; at Salterforth in the former West Riding, now transferred to Lancashire; at Kendal in Westmorland; and at Farringdon, Ontario, Canada). Since the closure of Salterforth, only this one at Wheatley remains in its original use.
