The bridleway through the fate runs from Dean prior to Cross Furzes. The gate, by the gully, marks the boundary between Dean Prior and West Buckfastleigh parishes. At the end of the bracken, beyond the gate, a faint line can be made out, descending, right. Under the bracken here lies the formation of a tramway linking the shaft of Caroline Wheal Prosper, off shot left, to the mine's dressing floors, off shot right, in the valley below. The line was worked as a self-acting inclined plane, ie by gravity, in the mid-nineteenth century for a few years, before the mine was abandoned
