Cloister Court, Sidney Sussex College
Cloister Court, Sidney Sussex College
The building ahead, Cloister Court, was completed in 1891. (It was originally called New Court, but fortunately wiser counsels soon prevailed: there are at least four more recent courts in College.)
On the right is the north face of Hall Court, with the only surviving example of Tudor brick in Sidney Sussex. (The large window below the steep angled roof illuminates College Hall.) Of course the cloisters on the right were added as part of the Cloister Court development. This must be one of the very earliest examples in Oxbridge of a design which allowed Fellows and students to get back to their rooms without getting soaked in wet weather!
