Green enclosure
Green enclosure
It is strange to find a level, green field amid such steep slopes, bare rock and scree. This lush field occupies a glacial melt-water channel that dates back to the last ice-age. A series of such channels cut across the headland in an East-West direction at different levels. It is supposed that ice was thick enough over the Irish Sea Basin that melt-water could not escape northwards, but was diverted to run parallel to the coast.
