A blue plque outside St John's Church, ereceted by the Leeds Civic Trust reads;
John Harrison 1579-1656. St. John's, one of England's most remarkable churches, was built by this celebrated benefactors in 1634. A cloth merchant and co-founder of Leeds Corporation, he further endowed the town with almshouses, a new grammar school and a market cross.
The church is unfortunately now redundant.
