Bournemouth: tributes to Red 4
Bournemouth: tributes to Red 4
Last weekend's Red Arrows display during the Bournemouth Air Festival ended in tragedy when one of the planes, Red 4, crashed on its way into land on its way back to the airport, killing the pilot, Flt Lt Jon Egging.

The town was rocked by collective grief and books of condolence opened on Sunday morning at the Town Hall have received 6,000 written tributes in their first six days. Floral tributes continue to arrive outside the Town Hall, surrounding the lion (see SZ0891 : Bournemouth: lion and balloon) with an estimated 500 received so far. The flag has flown at half mast as a mark of respect all week.

It was announced this morning that the books of condolence will remain open for a further week, owing to demand.
