taken 7 years ago, near to Chislehurst, Bromley, Great Britain

Prince Imperial Road
Prince Imperial Road
The road dates from 1879, widening a pre-existing track across the Common, to take the gun carriage bearing the body of the Prince Imperial, son of Napoleon III, to lie in state at Camden Place (see TQ4370 : Camden Place) following his death in Zululand, before his funeral at St Mary's Church (see TQ4469 : St Mary's Church).

On the right is the Prince Imperial Memorial, erected in his memory in 1881. For closer view and fuller description, see TQ4369 : Prince Imperial Memorial.
