A rotating boat lift opened in 2002 to connect the Forth and Clyde Canal and Union Canal, which had formerly been linked by a series of 11 locks that had fallen into disuse in the 1930s and been filled in. Seen here half way through its rotation, with a tour boat in the near section, being lifted to the upper level, and a narrow boat and tour boat in the far section, being lowered to the basin below.
