Train leaving Metrocentre station
The Metrocentre, opened in the 1980s, is a large out-of-town shopping centre. Although it was built to be easily accessible by car, it is also next to a railway line, and a new station was built so that trains could serve the centre. In this image, a 2-car Class 142 diesel multiple unit is heading away from Metrocentre station.
As well as shops, there are also leisure venues at the Metrocentre such as the Odeon cinema in the background.
