Michelham Priory Moat
The moat is actually part of the Cuckmere River which feeds into it and exits via sluices built to maintain the water level. Reputedly the largest water filled moat in Britain it is 30 metres wide in parts and has a linear dimension of 1 mile. The watercourse encloses a rectangular island on which sits the Priory, access is by a stone bridge and barbican. Two wooden bridges facilitate a walk along the eastern side.
