ST8537 : Ford, Kingston Deverill

Ford, Kingston Deverill
The ford through the River Wylye at Kingston Deverill is probably of Roman origin. It is shared by the Roman road from the Mendips to Old Sarum (The Lead Road) and the Roman road from Bath to Poole.

The lane runs into and along the river for several yards where a bend reduces the current's strong flow, and the placid shallow water would have made a safe place to cross.
