St Mark's Church
St Mark's Church
Located on the corner of Eastern Road and Church Place. Built between 1838 and 1848 during which construction stopped due to a row about its use, it was consecrated in 1849 and became the parish church of Kemp Town in 1873 until its closure in 1986. It was then acquired by nearby St Mary's School to be used as a concert, arts centre and private chapel, the original intended use when first planned back in the 1830s and the cause of the row that hampered its completion. When St Mary's closed this former church along with the other school buildings were obtained by Roedean School.
