NZ3246 : St Mary's Church, West Rainton
The 130' tower and spire were gifted to the church in 1877 by Sir George Elliot. He was a local pitman's son who had 'made good'. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_George_Elliot,_1st_Baronet
for an account of his colourful career, which included rendering engineering services to Egyptian railways.
