SK3650 : Heage Windmill drying kiln

taken 20 years ago, near to Heage, Derbyshire, England

Heage Windmill drying kiln
Heage Windmill drying kiln
The building behind the windmill was once the drying kiln for the corn used in the mill. It is now a shop selling flour produced in the windmill, souvenirs and refreshments. A mill stone is propped up at one of the two entrances to the windmill. This derbyshire millstone grit mill stone would have been used to grind grain for animal feed. 'French' mill stones are installed in the mill, as the harder stone is more suitable for producing flour.
