Portland Marina Breakwater
Portland Marina Breakwater
This is a recently constructed breakwater in preparation for the 2012 olympics sailing events which will take place here. Prior to the construction there was no dry land in the square and it was "all at sea". In the background is the isle of Portland topped by the Verne Prison and the large radar dome used for monitoring cross channel air traffic. On the extreme left are the large rectangular blocks of the Mulberry harbours used in the 1944 d-day landing and now permanently stored in the harbour.
