Liberty's factory at Merton Abbey
Liberty's factory at Merton Abbey
This building at Merton Abbey Mills was until 1972 the factory of Liberty's (a textile manufacturer). It is now part of a craft market.
Merton Abbey Mills
A former textile factory in Merton, South London, which drew water power from the adjacent River Wandle. It occupies part of the site of the medieval Merton Priory.

Merton Abbey Mills were established by Huguenot silk throwers in the early eighteenth century and adapted for textile printing in the early nineteenth century. The most famous artisan was the artist and designer William Morris who occupied workshops on the site from 1881.
