Tussock-grass near Marsh Farm
Tussock-grass or Tufted hair-grass (Deschampsia caespitosa) is a sign of poorly drained land. Nearby it cohabited with common rush and marsh thistle. The upper surface of the leaves is extremely rough. Here, the spent seed-heads glitter in the sun. Cultivated varieties for gardens exploit the warm colour and architectural qualities of this tall grass a group of Deschampsia in flower creates a pale gold haze that floats above other plants.
