Heron, River Coquet
Heron, River Coquet
Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

The stately heron is a patient hunter, stabbing fish, frogs and water mammals with its sword-like bill. In flight the neck is hunched and the wings flap slowly.

Herons build large stick nests in tree colonies and lay three to eight eggs.
