Clan Macrae Memorial
Clan Macrae Memorial
The Clan Macrae memorial was erected in 1915 to commemorate those clansmen who fell at the Battle of Sheriffmuir on 13 November 1715. This was the only major action of the 1715 Jacobite Uprising, a battle which saw the left flanks of both armies routed. However, the Jacobite commander, John Erskine, 6th earl of Mar withdrew his numerically superior forces, and subsequently handed the initiative to the Hanoverian army under John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll.
