Chalbury: parish church of All Saints
Chalbury: parish church of All Saints
This beautiful little church stands atop a modest hill - 330 feet or so - and thus commands fine views across the countryside to the south and east. Indeed, until 1703 when it was truncated in a great storm, an elm tree on top of the same hill was said to be a navigational aid to sailors in the Solent and clearly discernible from Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

Part of the original 13th-century fabric of the church survive but it dates mainly from the eighteenth century. It was not initially dedicated to any saint and the current dedication of All Saints was only made in the mid-twentieth century.
