St Alphage Highwalk (1)
St Alphage Highwalk (1)
One of the elevated walkways built as part of the development plan drawn up the City of London and London County Council in 1954-55. West of Moorgate, London Wall would be lined with six office towers, perpendicular to the street, and walkways would run alongside and, via a bridge, link to the Barbican Estate. The segregation of traffic and pedestrians, a favourite of the 1960s, didn't really work, and things never stay still in the City for long. The pubs and shops which once lined the walkways have closed, and their precise fate is uncertain in light of a large-scale development planned for the area.
