Sunrise over Caolas Sgalpaigh
Sunrise over Caolas Sgalpaigh
The sun rises over the hills of east Harris flooding Caolas Sgalpaigh - the strait between Harris and Scalpay - with morning sunlight. Two small boats can be seen heading out to sea in the direction of the distant Shiant Islands.
At the right of the image, the three gables of a building associated with a quarry are illuminated by the sun's rays making it stand out against the dark rock.
Caolas, which effectively means "straits" is often rendered as "kyle(s)" as in the Kyle of Lochalsh for example.
