Slime mould on tree stump
For context, see NS4276 : Path in Overtoun Estate, where the subject of the present photograph can be seen as a white spot on the near side of the tree stump that is at the centre of the picture.

This pale pinkish specimen, about 5cm across, was still developing, but can be seen to be made up of many small individual units. Had it remained dry overnight, I would have returned the next day to identify the mature specimen (it cannot be identified at this stage, although I was hoping it would turn out to be a Stemonitis species). As it was, a thunderstorm began less than an hour after this picture was taken; there would probably not have been much, if anything, left after that.
