Dunstanburgh Castle
Dunstanburgh Castle
One of the great landmarks of the Northumberland Coast, this magnificent ruin is owned by the National Trust but is managed by English Heritage. The castle dates from the 14th century when it was built by Edward Thomas of Lancaster and it played its part in the Wars of the Roses. It later passed to John of Gaunt who strengthened it against the Scots.
