Bishop's Palace, St Davids
Bishop's Palace, St Davids
The imposing ruins of The Bishop's Palace stand next to St David's Cathedral in the tiny city of St Davids in Wales. The palace, as it now stands, was largely the work of Bishop Henry de Gower in the first half of the fourteenth century.

By the middle ages, unlike the frugal Saint David who founded the monastery here in the 6th century, the bishops of St Davidís enjoyed all the trapping of wealth and influence. The most obvious symbol of their status was this great palace, unequalled anywhere else in Wales. The building's enduring grandeur, even after centuries of neglect, still conveys the affluence and power of the medieval church.
