Boating pool, Morecambe
The boating pool dam retained water when the tide was out. When the sea defences were rebuilt, the western end of the pool (to the left) was filled in and built up to promenade level. Additional sand was imported to cover the beach to the right (east). Presumably, the dam was demolished.
Central Pier is in the background. The pier first opened in 1869, closed in 1986 and was demolished in 1992. It was about 275m long, extending NNW from SD434646. See LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) .
