Detail of J5868 : Gravestone, Grey Abbey.
The former Grey Abbey J5868 : The grey abbey at Greyabbey was restored as a place of worship by Scots planter Hugh Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery (1560–1636) LinkExternal link , in the early 1600s, remaining so until the late 1700s (when the nearby St Saviours was established J5868 : St Saviour's, Greyabbey). Many of the Montgomery family, who settled and still live at the adjacent Rosemount estate, are either buried or commemorated within the Abbey ruins. This stone, affixed to a wall, is for a later Hugh Montgomery who died on the 31st October 1707, aged 72.
