Former National School, Church Lane, Southowram
Former National School, Church Lane, Southowram
This was built in 1839, and also served as the Sunday school for St Anne in the Grove Church opposite. The architect has used Gothic pointed arches, but Tudor-style chimneys. In the centre of the wall are two ghostly blocked doorways with round heads. Sitting on the wall is a carved plaque, the inscription on which includes ' national School', which looks as if it belongs high up on the building perhaps on a porch over the ghost doorways.
