The old Post Office and forge at Tinwell
The Shell Guide to Rutland shows this delightful building as the Post Office with 'Tinwell Post Office' over the door but clearly this is no longer the case. The horseshoe gives away an earlier use still. Built in 1848, the building was originally the village blacksmith's forge. An example of what is still a working blacksmith's forge with the horseshoe around its door is to be found at Glynde in East Sussex - see
Link Another former forge which now services a more modern form of transport can be seen at Penshurst in Kent where it is now the village garage - see
