The war memorial was erected in 1920 and is built into the churchyard wall of St Edmund's Church. It is inscribed for both World Wars LinkExternal link
A plaque on the rear face, within the churchyard, is inscribed:
PASS NOT THIS STONE IN SORROW BUT IN PRIDE, AND MAY YOU LIVE AS NOBLY AS THEY DIED. LORD GRANT THEM ETERNAL LIFE.

Next to it on the right is a Canadian memorial erected in 1996 to airmen lost during a Lancaster Bomber training flight on 24th November 1944 LinkExternal link

Sedgefield Heritage Trail

On a good day, the town looks very pretty and has much of interest. A good place to start is the Heritage Trail which is available on the web LinkExternal link and as a leaflet available locally (try the Council Offices off the High Street near Hope Inn).
