Hardwick Arms Hotel, North End, Sedgefield
The Hardwick Arms was Sedgefield's main coaching inn and dates from the early Cl9th, with later Cl9th additions and alterations. The 'Expedition' coach left for Leeds at 9.30am and Newcastle at 4.30pm daily except on Sunday. Later, horse-drawn buses took passengers from here to the railway station.
The arch has spur stones set on either side to keep coach wheels away from the walls and leads to a partly cobbled courtyard and stables which have been converted for accommodation NZ3528 : Archway, Hardwick Arms Hotel, Sedgefield. It is a listed building.

Sedgefield Heritage Trail
On a good day, the town looks very pretty and has much of interest. A good place to start is the Heritage Trail which is available on the web Link
and as a leaflet available locally (try the Council Offices off the High Street near Hope Inn).
