The Clock, Houses of Parliament
The Clock, Houses of Parliament
The four clock faces of the Clock Tower of the Houses of Parliament were designed by Augustus Pugin and are 23 ft (7m) in diameter, the minute hands are 14 ft (4.2m) long. The bell which sounds on the hour is 'Big Ben', a name which is often used mistakenly for the tower. This chiming clock is the largest in the world and first chimed on 31 May 1859.
