Setting up
Race day at Salisbury Racecourse and the bookies are setting up their stands.
Situated high on the Downs just outside Salisbury and with fine views over the city, Salisbury Racecourse has been holding meetings since the 16th century. The course is partly straight with a pear shaped loop, the bends are tight and the finishing straight is up an incline. Races of less than one mile are run on the straight, over one mile and they follow the loop. For a couple of years now the racecourse has run a very popular free race day in October, allowing regulars and 'newbies' a chance to have a fun day at the races without having to pay admission.
