Wortley Top Forge - steam engine
Wortley Top Forge - steam engine
A very elderly horizontal single cylinder steam engine from Sharrow snuff mills and workable on compressed air. The oval flywheel rim and slide valve on top are early features (1850 or earlier).

More recent documentary evidence from the snuff mill indicates this was bought in 1843 from Davy Bros of Sheffield and is the second oldest dated horizontal stationary steam engine in the UK.
