Outcrop with tree on Scale Hill, Winster Valley
There are many outcrops of Silurian slate scattered around the floor of the valley. A mature tree has managed to survive in a crevice, protected from the predations of the sheep that surround it in the pastures all around. A brief burst of sun has illuminated the rock - moments later I was cowering behind a stone wall to escape a sudden shower.
