HY4800 : Lamb Holm from the air with Churchill Barrier No.1

taken 8 years ago, near to Graemeshall, Orkney Islands, Great Britain

Lamb Holm from the air with Churchill Barrier No.1
Lamb Holm from the air with Churchill Barrier No.1
An aerial photo of most of the island of Lamb Holm. The most obvious feature of this island from the air is without doubt the whopping great X made by the airfield which takes up most of the little island. However this is not what the island is most famous for - that is the little Italian Chapel made from a converted Nissen Hut during WWII by Italian POWs (see HY4800 : Italian Chapel et al)
The dead straight line to the left is Churchill Barrier No.1 (also built largely by the Italian POWs) linking Lamb Holm to Mainland, Orkney.
