Church of St John the Baptist- sundial
Located above the south door is the Church's sundial, made of sandstone and set into flint.

Sundials are thought to be the oldest known device for the measurement of time and one of the most ancient scientific instruments, with the oldest known true sundial being made around 1500BC in Egypt. The sun casts a shadow from the dial's style, the time telling edge of the gnomon which is often a thin rod or a sharp, straight edge, onto a surface marked with lines indicating the hours of the day. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow-edge aligns with different hour-lines.
