This tower mill is very tight internally and this is from a little platform on the heavily guarded hurst floor. The red guard is an anti-trap device and is between the stone nut (on the left) and the great spur wheel (behind). The horizontal wooden pulley on the left drives the governor. The bright wood right of centre is a meal spout and the gearing behind it drives the wire machine. At the bottom edge of the picture are three gear teeth with their locating pins and the hammer to fit them. These fit in the stone nut to the left, which is thus out of gear until they are fitted. The gearing is all wooden.
