SP9209 : Hastoe Village Hall - rear view
taken 11 years ago, near to Hastoe, Hertfordshire, Great Britain

Please look at the shared description below for more information.
It was only quite recently that the villagers of the hamlet of Hastoe realised that they actually owned (in trust) their rather splendid village hall. Very little maintenance had been carried out at the hall for years, so considerable refurbishment is required, but the building was very well constructed so despite the neglect is still in surprisingly good condition. The community is rallying round to raise the money, and to get grants to fully modernize it, and considerable strides have already been made.
The hall was built by the Rothschild family in 1898, and owes its location in such a small hamlet to the fact that this was approximately the centre of their huge estate.
The hall is built on the site of an old pub (The Black Horse), a brewery (John Batchelor’s) and William Wright’s mill.
