Where's the path?
Where's the path?
The footpath and marker is about 100m NE of the line shown on the OS 25K (online) map.

Indeed the footpath as a whole through The Thicks is a few yards east of the line shown, as I found out when in the dense undergrowth with my phone displaying my position.
Staverton Park and The Thicks
Staverton Park originated as a medieval deer park, of larger extent than the current Staverton Park. From the 16th Century the oaks were pollarded at 50-year intervals resulting in the distinctive crown oak shapes, it is believed to be the largest area of ancient pollarded oaks in Europe.

Staverton Thicks is known for its holly trees which are exceptionally old and tall, reputed to be the tallest in Britain, this results in a closed canopy with dense shade; there is little ground vegetation.
